Star attractions of Media

Chetan bhagat supports overhaul of Indian education system.
Imran Khan plans to file a PIL against 25 as age limit for drinking(BigB Supports the cause).
Vijay mallya thinks Lokpal should be more carefully drafted.
MS Dhoni adopts a tiger at Mysore.
Priyanka chopra supports NDTV Greenathon.
Celina jaitley supports PETA.

Is Socially conscious the new sexy ?

A breakdown of series of events presents a different picture. The Media needs TRP's to survive and Stars need publicity. Media can easily focus the same issues for months together and acheive almost nothing. People love Glitz, Glamour and Familiarity now. When the same issue is focussed using a well known personality, people tend to pay more attention and are keen to know why their beloved star is supporting a cause. The Media gets more eyeballs for the same issue merely by the addition of a star studded line up to voice their opinion.
Going by that point,Anna Hazare is a star too. The Media needed a star to generate more interest for an important cause and who better person than a Social worker, Ex-army man, Padma bhushan and Padma shri. Hardly anyone knew him(atleast the newer generation) until he sat to fast against corruption. There is no denying that many prominent personalities sit on fast day in and day out. None of them is hardly covered by the national media, frankly they get very little space even in the local media. Then how did Anna become an overnight star?
The issue was caught at the right time by the media (By right time,i mean UPA II deep in troubles with scams round their neck) and they needed a face to better focus the issue. Anna was the right person at the right time to start a fast. His biography was read day in and dayout and thanks to the great work, Anna Hazare became the new Gandhiji. Stars from Bollywood jolsted for space to support him. TRP's soared and stars reiterated their support to Anna. Stars got their free publicity and Media got what it needed.(fodder for a few days).
Strange is the relationship.
Nevertheless the average consumer pays that extra buck to keep those soaring ad rates flying.

Inspirational Sachin - A Tribute

Perhaps its my snobbish nature, but iv never felt like being a fan of lot of people or things. Of the very few people i adore, SACHIN TENDULKAR is right on the top.
My first memory is of Sachin playing against SL in the '96 world cup match. A young boy was playing as he was there to stay, India lost the match even after Sachin scored a century. As days passed, i started playing like him like every youngster would emulate his hero. Then came Sharjah in '98 and any lingering doubts in my mind if he was a genius or not had been put to rest. The runs he scored piled up so did my collection of his replica cards distributed free with a chewing gum. A deep bad feeling ran through my childish mind whenever he failed to score what had been expected of him. He went through a rough patch ,then i thought i over expected of a player and he proved me wrong. My admiration for the man grew greater. He came back from his father's funeral and scored a ton, i admired in silence.

He put up a fight even when we were supposed to definitely lose. The test match against Pak in 99 at chennai was a true example of the fighting spirit of the Master. His counterparts fell for a single digit ,nothing seemed to deter him and he went on even with his back paining,he went on . He ultimately gave his wicket away in pain with India still a few runs to win and as we ca expect we did lost the match. is fighting spirit gave me sense that one can try hard even when everything is against us and try to achieve what we are set to. It felt to me as revenge had been taken when she smashed Pak in '03 World cup. My ego was satisfied. Now i started cursing critics who habitually doubted Sachin's abilities for cheap publicity. He has remained a towering figure and i always look up to him when i feel down and try to emulate him .He has been an inspiration to a whole generation of the country. I wish the present youth try to emulate him and learn how to rise to bigger heights with every failure.

Dear Sachin , You have made a place in the history books, record books, madame tussad's wax museum , opus book and more importantly a billion hearts who will always wish u succeed in every endeavor. I wish i could call you Sir Sachin Tendulkar some day.

Swine Whine !!

Everyday newspapers are full of information on measures to prevent swine flu and carry exclusive columns dedicated to deaths caused by the deadly H1N1 virus.Information is good, swine flu is a deadly disease and we need to be aware. The emphasis laid on the issue by media is forcing the government to take some action which is very good, taking into account our govt's dismal record of controlling epidemic outbreaks.
What bad can happen by spreading information to control the disease ??
Really can something bad happen? Lets see.Lets take the case of nodal centers for flu.
What about the nodal centers ??
They are working hard to prevent the disease spreading into the community.? This is a big joke given the protective equipment to doctors and other medical staff. In a few days, doctors and other health staff are bound to be a major source of infection if such situation persists.
Without providing proper protective equipment to doctors, the government can't expect to control the disease.
The nodal centers are in for another big problem.
The Acute medical care units are being converted into Isolation wards.AMC usually admits emergency cases like Diabetic keto acidosis, Insecticide poisoning, Snake bites and Cerebrovascular accidents.
Now that the AMC wards are full of Swine flu cases, there is no way such cases can be admitted and they have to be referred to other hospitals .95 - 98 % of the people admitted in Govt hospital like Gandhi are poor.
Lets take the case of a snake bite in a village. He will be taken to nearest the primary health center or a district hospital who in turn refer the case to a tertiary center like Gandhi and Osmania. When he reaches the hospital after travelling such a long distance battling for his life,he doesn't realise he is making his journey to the grave as he will not be admitted in the hospital and by the time he comes out and scouts for another hospital,he is bound to lose his life.Such scenes will be even more common in cases of Cerebrovascular accidents and diabetic keto acidosis who need immediate care and a delay means doom. The apathy of the poor man will not be moving to the media or the Govt.

The government will do nothing to save such patients as they will not be highlighted by the media as Swine flu is being done. Spreading panic does no good to the community. There have been far more deaths due to TB in India. Was the media sleeping then ?
Just because their western counterparts have done something does not mean our
media should follow suit and hype something so much and cause so much damage to the society. Unless the media corrects itself, the poor Stroke patient
or the farmer who consumes insecticide will have no respite.

Best Days

August, 2009.

The thought had never crossed my mind. All of a sudden i felt a tingling sensation in my stomach, my heart was sinking. The very thought of parting from each other cast a gloom on all of us. The atmosphere turned being vibrant to dull and sad, as if someone important had passed away, i dint realize till a little while later that it was really something that had passed away.

August 1st 2004.

My friend who was studying in the college i was about to enter, passed away .It was friendship day and also one my best buddy’s birthday.

August 2nd 2004.

I entered college on a bad note, never expecting that i would ever find happiness in the college at all.

As days passed by, after i overcame the fear of ragging, i shifted from a flat to college hostel. The fact that Johnny was also shifting to hostel was a kind of relief for me. The sea of seniors gave us a chill in the spine. The first few days, we lived in fear and constant anticipation that some senior would come and give us a torrid time. Then the inevitable came, i was ragged, not quiet as badly as my friends described it would be. Johnny was spared the blushes courtesy, his fractured Humerus . We dint make good friends with any for long. We were told not to make friends with Baba when we first entered hostel. Baba, a dark guy, who had stunned the class with his shayaris and all kinds of silly comments stuff. Baba and Sunil were peculiar. They had their own world, they kept to themselves. After some days, i found that Baba, Sunil, Johnny and me had similar interests. Then came Chenna. We became instant friends. We started to hang out together. Our attendance percentages kept falling and on waking up, the first thought would be of “Which cinema?”, “Which restaurant?”, “ What shall we do today?” . We had forgot that we had a college to attend until our attendances were posted in the notice board. A rude shock, that was. As the exams approached, we started swotting out with books like never before.

First year passed, so did second and third.

Final year blues were waiting to greet us .... The years we spent together have left an indelible impression on all of us. We understood how important each one of us was to each other. We studied together, ate together, had fun, roamed together, went places, did all sort of stuff that we wanted to. We stood by each others’s thick and thin. Final year is over. We have different destinations to reach, we have to part ways. It’s August 2009 and Baba said the word. “This is it guys. “ And we realized we had to stay away. We still keep in contact during our internship, but the best days of my life have passed and it makes me sad. I wish to relive these days again and again. Its Sunil, Chenna, Johnny, Baba and me.
